While the previous bridge had been named for the abolitionist Frederick Douglass in 1965, the new bridge retains his name adds an arch design versus the prior swing bridge built in 1950. The Frederick Douglass National Historical Site is a short distance from the bridge. I was walking around Washington and the ballpark area when I came upon the bridge. The
