The item is an etui (small case) or "necessaire" which item would hold items necessary such as the note card that is still in place within this one

We have no provenance to speak of

No chips to the box and no cracks or restorations - just age and a beautiful old treasure of intrigue

but we do not have a key to fit it at listing time

There may be some loss and/or corrosion to the boulle style inlays (note the corner inlays) and a bit of raised stringing along the right side lid
